Government bill would remove obstacles to wind power construction in the Bothnia Bay

The obstacles to wind power construction arising from possible disturbances in the operation of surveillance radars can be eliminated in specifically defined areas by developing the surveillance systems of the Finnish Defence Forces, for example through an additional radar.

Katainen: Growth and jobs through effective energy and tax policies

On 22 May, the European Council discussed energy and tax policies. The focus is on the creation of new jobs and growth.

"Better functioning taxation and more effective internal energy markets will improve competitiveness in Europe and support employment. This will increase revenue to public finances, which can then be invested to create new growth, and guarantee a level playing field to businesses in various parts of Europe. As regards energy, we are to have access to reasonably priced energy and use it more effectively than before," Prime Minister Katainen said in Brussels.

Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb and Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala are travelling to Zambia and Tanzania from 20 to 25 May.

New communication guidelines in disruptions focus on preparedness and warnings

The new government guidelines for communications in disruptions and emergency conditions entered into force on 20 May. The guidelines adopted by Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen replace the government communications guidelines for crisis and emergency conditions issued in 2007.

The reviewed guidelines focus on enhanced dissemination of information required in various disruptions under normal circumstances and on communication cooperation between various authorities, businesses and NGOs.
