Minister Stubb to Strasbourg and Paris
Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will visit Strasbourg and Paris on 22–24 May.
On Tuesday 22 May, he will meet Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg to discuss key EU issues of particular importance to Finland, such as the Union's multiannual financial framework - the budget - for 2014–2020, the digital single market, the economy, the energy efficiency directive, and institutional issues. Minister Stubb will have a meeting with Joseph Daul, Chairman of the Group of the European People's Party (EPP); Elmar Brok, Chair of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs (EPP); Malcolm Harbour, Chair of the parliamentary Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (ECR); Vital Moreira, Chair of the parliamentary Committee on International Trade (S&D); Alain Lamassoure, Chair of the parliamentary Committee on Budgets (EPP); Claude Turmes, Vice-Chair of the Group of the Greens (Verts); and the Finnish Members of the European Parliament.
On Wednesday 23 May, Minister Stubb will meet the former President of the European Commission, Jacques Delors and the Chairman of the French Autorité des marchés financiers, Jean-Pierre Jouyet in Paris. He will also discuss the digital single market with representatives of the Movement of the French Enterprises (MEDEF). On Thursday 24 May, Minister Stubb will give a speech on the challenges for growth in Europe at an event hosted by the Robert Schuman Foundation.
In Paris, Minister Stubb will also attend the annual Meeting of the OECD Council at Ministerial Level focusing on growth and jobs. The meeting will be chaired by Turkey, with Chile and Poland as vice-chairs. In addition to the 34 member countries, the meeting will be attended by the Russian Federation, which is has a candidate country status, and by five of the OECD's key partner countries: Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and South Africa. The OECD Economic Outlook will be published prior to the meeting. The main items on the agenda are the global economic situation, international trade, inclusion in the global economic management, and OECD strategies on development, skills and women's labour market participation. In addition to Minister Stubb, Finland's representatives to the meeting will include Antti Kuosmanen, Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the OECD, Jarmo Lindén, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture, and civil servants from different ministries.
