Foreign Minister of Nicaragua to visit Finland
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua Samuel Santos López will visit Finland on 26-27 April and meet Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala and Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja. Santos will also meet President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö.
The topics of discussion with Foreign Minister Tuomioja will include bilateral relations, the situation between the EU and Central America, and trade in small arms. With Minister for International Development Hautala the topics to be discussed, on the other hand, include continuation of cooperation between our countries and new modes of operation.
In the Development Policy Action Plan adopted by the Government, the focus of Finnish programme cooperation was shifted towards poorer Africa and certain fragile states in Asia. Cooperation in Nicaragua and other parts of Latin America will be continued by means that support human rights and democracy development in the region. Support is also provided for transfer of expertise in cooperation between institutions and through the Finnpartnership programme, providing support for business activities in these countries.
