Nordic Countries strengthen their cooperation in foreign and security policy
In Reykjavik on 12 February, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Nordic Counties published a joint statement, by which the countries commit themselves to strengthening their foreign and security policy cooperation, relating to crisis management; operation of international organisations; climate change; sustainable development; Arctic issues; and cyber security.
The statement, which also provides a kind of long-term vision for Nordic foreign and security policy cooperation, is built upon Nordic values and the concept of comprehensive security. It takes comprehensive account of the different global threats and the need for coordination between various fields of policy.
The Nordic foreign and security policy cooperation has become closer and, over the past few years, expanded its scope. This cooperation strengthens security within the respective territories, but it also further enhances the opportunities of Nordic Countries to actively contribute to building international security.
