On Tuesday 29 November, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy outlined that Finland will continue its participation in the NATO Response Force (NRF) in 2019 and 2020. Finland’s contribution to the NRF's pool of troops will be a jaeger unit of the Army in 2019 and a Katanpää-class mine countermeasure vessel and a coastal jaeger unit of the Navy in 2020. Finland has participated in the NRF's pool of troops since 2012, and it is an important part of Finland’s NATO partner participation.

In addition, the meeting discussed the Northeast Passage telecommunications cable project on the basis of a recently published report commissioned by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy deemed it important that preparation for the project should continue on a broad basis together with all relevant countries.

The meeting also discussed topical questions and visits related to Russia. The Finnish-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation met in Moscow on 23 November 2016. Both general matters related to trade and economic relations between Finland and Russia and questions related to the business environment were addressed in the meeting.
