The main theme on the first day of the European Council meeting (25 June) was migration.
Continuing the discussions at the European Council in April, the EU Heads of States agreed that within two years, 40 000 persons in need of international protection will be relocated from Italy and Greece to the other Member States. The Member States will agree by consensus by the end of July on the distribution of such persons.
It was also decided that the Member States will participate in the resettling of 20 000 displaced persons .
