Press release 53/2015

During his trip Secretary Meade will meet, among others, President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö, Speaker of Parliament Eero Heinäluoma, Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja and Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Lenita Toivakka.

The topics of discussion at the meetings are current situations between Finland and Mexico, bilateral relations between the two countries, multilateral issues and cooperation as well as topical international issues.

The aim of the visit is to promote relations and cooperation between Finland and Mexico as well as economic interaction and trade. Mexico’s structural reforms and growing economy offer considerable opportunities for Finnish enterprises. In April 2014 the Mexican Government published an infrastructure programme that promises a total of about 450 billion euros in investments during the period 2014–2018.

Similarly, the opening up of Mexico’s energy and telecommunications sectors brings new opportunities for Finnish enterprises. Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Toivakka will lead a Team Finland trade mission, accompanied by a business delegation, at the end of March.

Finland and Mexico cooperate closely on multilateral issues, especially within the sphere of the United Nations. Effort is made to advance this cooperation further.
