Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö to Luxembourg

Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö will attend an unofficial meeting of European defence ministers in Luxembourg on 2 to 3 September 2015.

The main topic at the defence minister meeting is going to be the follow-up of defence-related matters discussed in the European Council in June and furthering the implementation of decisions taken. In addition, the ministers are going to address current defence policy matters and prepare for the Foreign Affairs Council which will be held on defence minister level in November.

The EUNAVFOR MED mission that addresses the situation in the Mediterranean is going to be high in the agenda on operations. The mission that aims at preventing human smuggling in accordance with international law was launched in June. At this point Finland's contribution is at most ten military staff for the operation's staff duties for the maximum contractual time of 12 months.
