Press release

Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö will take part in the defence minister meeting of the EU's Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on 18 May. The Foreign Affairs Council will address, at the defence-minister-level meeting, the monitoring of the European Global Strategy in the field of security and defence and the EU-NATO cooperation. In addition, interior and defence ministers will have lunch together during which they will discuss anti-terrorism measures.

The steering board of the European Defence Agency will also hold a defence-minister-level meeting as part of the Foreign Affairs Council. The main topics on the agenda include a report by the EU's High Representative Federica Mogherini on the future trends of the EDA and a discussion on setting up a joint finance mechanism. The mechanism would support the EU's common projects which often face challenges because of different time spans in budget cycles.

A Memorandum of Understanding on defence materiel will be signed with Slovakia during the visit.
