Minister of Defence Niinistö to Vancouver and Washington

Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö will attend a conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Canada will host the United Nations Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial (UNPKDM) on November 14 to 15, 2017.

The UNPKDM is the world's largest gathering of defence ministers dedicated to peacekeeping, with over 500 participants from more than 70 countries and international organizations attending the conference. It will be hosted by UN Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix. The topics the defence ministers will address include rapid response, training, capability building and increased participation of women in peacekeeping operations.

After the defence ministerial conference, minister Niinistö will continue his trip to Washington where he will be staying on November 16 to 17. In addition to the bilateral meetings he is scheduled to have in Washington, minister Niinistö will participate in a Finnish-American seminar on defence and security industry organised by the Defence and Aviation Industry Association of Finland (PIA).
