Estonia's Minister of Defence Luik to visit Finland

Estonia's newly elected Minister of Defence Jüri Luik will make an official visit to Finland on 13 September 2017. The visit will be hosted by the Finnish Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö.

The topics on the agenda include bilateral relations between the two countries, the security situation in the Baltic Sea region, materiel cooperation and international cooperation. An inspection of the guard of honour and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hietaniemi cemetery are also included in Minister Luik's programme. Defence Minister Luik will also call on the Defence Command.

Prior to his current term of office which began on 12 June 2017, Jüri Luik acted as Defence Minister in 1993-1994 and 1999-2001. He has also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs (1994-1995) and Estonia's Ambassador to Moscow and to NATO. He is a member of the IRL party (Pro Patria and Res Publica Union). His previous visit to Finland took place in 2001 as a Minister of Defence.
