Press release 347/2016

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini will talk about the objectives in the Arctic dimension on 5 September at the Nordic seminar 'Arctic Expertise in Nordic Cooperation'. There will also be a presentation by former Finnish Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen. Representatives from the other Nordic countries will also be giving talks.

The high-level event organised by the Prime Minister's Office for invited guests will be attended by researchers, political decision-makers and public servants of the Nordic countries. The seminar's main purpose is to deepen cooperation between and among actors in the arctic region.

Finland is an arctic country and an important actor in the arctic region. That is why we raise these questions extensively in different international contexts. But the Nordic countries are also a special reference group for us in terms of arctic matters. For this reason even closer cooperation is very valuable, notes Prime Minister Juha Sipilä.

The seminar, being held at the House of the Estates, is chaired by Permanent Secretary Paula Lehtomäki.

The afternoon seminar will be broadcast live through vn.fi/live and in twitter, identifier #NordArc2016
