Press release

The new National Energy and Climate Strategy is to be adopted at the Government plenary session on 24 November and then sent as a report to the Parliament. Before the plenary session the strategy is to be discussed at the Cabinet Finance Committee, which convenes on the same day.

The outlines of the strategy were discussed at the Government's strategy session today, on 7 November. On Tuesday 8 November the outcome of the strategy will be discussed at the meeting of the ministers involved in bioeconomy issues. After that the strategy is to be finalised and presented to the Government.

The strategy was prepared in cooperation between various ministers, coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and steered by the group of ministers responsible for bioeconomy issues. Minister for Economic Affairs Olli Rehn will present the strategy at the press conference to be held after the Government session on 24 November 2016.

The strategy specifies concrete actions and objectives for how Finland is to achieve the energy and climate objectives set out in the Government Programme of Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and the EU energy and climate objectives to 2030 in a way that Finland will be making consistent progress towards a carbon-neutral society in 2050.
