Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas will attend a seminar on cooperation between Finland and Estonia at the House of the Estates in Helsinki on Wednesday 8 June. The invitation-only event will also be attended by the foreign ministers of Finland and Estonia, Pekka Haavisto and Eva-Maria Liimets, as well as other ministers from the governments of the two countries.

‘REPORT 1+1=3 – Visionary report on Estonia-Finland future cooperation’, which examined relations between Finland and Estonia, was submitted to the prime ministers on 7 March in Tallinn. The report was drafted by ex-ministers Anne-Mari Virolainen and Jaak Aaviksoo at the request of the Finnish and Estonian governments.

The report gives recommendations for cooperation around four key themes: digital leadership, vibrant economies, the green future and extended cultural and educational cooperation. The upcoming seminar will also focus on these themes.

Finland and Estonia are more than just neighbours – our peoples are historically related by language and culture, and we collaborate very closely in many fields. The ever-changing world offers Estonia and Finland new opportunities for increasingly wide-ranging cooperation that can also benefit third parties.

In connection with the seminar, the prime ministers will also have a bilateral meeting to discuss the current security situation, EU affairs and other topical issues.
