Satu Koskela appointed as Director General of Department for Clients and Services in Healthcare and Social Welfare at Ministry of Social Affairs and Health

On Thursday 2 July, the Government appointed Satu Koskela as Director General of the Department for Clients and Services in Healthcare and Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. Koskela will take up her duties on 1 September 2020. The appointment is for a fixed period until 31 August 2025.

Koskela has served as Director of Administration at the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland since summer 2019. She is in charge of the Administrative and Development Services Division, which produces services equally for all Regional State Administrative Agencies. Between 2018 and 2019, she worked at the Ministry of Finance, leading the project to establish the National Supervisory Authority. Before that, she served as Director of the Basic Public Services, Legal Rights and Permits Division at the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland between 2013 and 2017. In 2004–2013, she held various managerial positions in the healthcare and social welfare sector at the City of Hyvinkää. Koskela holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences.

The Department for Clients and Services in Healthcare and Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health prepares and develops issues pertaining to the position and rights of the client and the patient, healthcare and social welfare employees as well as healthcare and social welfare services.

The National Advisory Board on Social Welfare and Health Care Ethics (ETENE), the National Advisory Board on Romani Affairs (RONK) and the Advisory Board for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (VANE) operate within this Department.

The Department was established on 1 June 2020 when the previous Department for Wellbeing and Services was split into three new departments.
