In the past months, Finland and Sweden have increased their cooperation in many sectors due to the changed security environment. During her visit to Sweden, Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen will meet ministers and directors of Sweden’s security of supply agency. She will also propose closer bilateral cooperation.

Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen will visit Sweden on 25−26 April. The theme of her visit is cooperation between the countries and, in particular, closer cooperation on security of supply matters.

“Finland benefits from a strong and well-functioning security of supply system and we have supported active cooperation at different international levels for a long time. Cooperation between the Nordic countries is already close, but bilateral cooperation with Sweden regarding security of supply should be intensified because of the changed security environment,” Haatainen says.

Minister Haatainen will meet Minister for Justice and Home Affairs Morgan Johansson to discuss the changed security situation, the increased importance of international collaboration, and closer cooperation based on the existing bilateral security of supply agreement.

Meanwhile, the meeting of Haatainen and Minister of Integration and Migration Anders Ygeman will focus on work-based immigration. The content of Finland’s Government report on changes in the security environment will also be addressed.

Closer cooperation in security of supply recently

Minister of Employment Haatainen will meet Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, who heads the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (Myndigheten för samhällsskydd och beredskap, MSB).

“I am very pleased that Finland’s National Emergency Supply Agency and the MSB have intensified and concretised their cooperation in security of supply matters in recent years. I encourage the parties to collaborate even more closely in the future,” Haatainen says.

The Minister will also speak at a seminar organised by Hanaholmen focusing on security of supply. The Hanaholmen programme, which was launched in 2021, is a cooperation programme for civil emergency preparedness and crisis management between Finland and Sweden.
