Prime Minister Sanna Marin will attend several meetings hosted by the Portuguese EU Council Presidency in Portugal on Friday 7 May and Saturday 8 May. On Thursday 6 May, Prime Minister Marin will have a bilateral meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa.

The Portuguese Presidency will hold the Porto Social Summit on Friday 7 May. A significant portion of the discussions will take place in workshops dealing with issues related to employment, education and inclusion.

Also on Friday 7 May, the heads of state or government will attend an informal dinner, where they will discuss topics including the EU’s joint measures to combat COVID-19 and the EU-India Leaders’ Meeting taking place the next day.

The informal meeting of heads or state or government on Saturday 8 May will also focus on social issues. At the meeting, the heads of state or government will sign the Porto Declaration emphasising the central role of the social dimension in post-pandemic recovery, the green and digital transition and adaptation to demographic change.

The EU-India Leaders’ Meeting will also take place on Saturday 8 May. Due to the severe COVID-19 situation in India, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate via videoconference. The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen the strategic partnership between the EU and India.
