Europe Day will show in European city streetscape on Thursday 9 May. Helsinki will celebrate the day in Narinkka Square in a bigger way than ever before.

There will be a panel discussion on the elections to the European Parliament, hosted by the Finnish public service broadcasting company Yle, and a high-level debate on the European Union and the European elections. Finnish musicians Diandra and Paleface will also perform in Narinkka Square. In a tent village in Narinkka Square, there will be a bouncy castle, candyfloss and face and nail painting, and pea soup will be served. The event is part of the Uusimaa region week, and all programmes will be open to everyone free of charge.

The celebrations in Narinkka Square are co-organised by the Foreign Ministry’s Europe Information, Yle, European Movement Finland, Young European Federalists Europe, and European Commission and European Parliament. Representatives of Europe Information will be present on Thursday 9 May from 9 am until 21 pm. Welcome to discuss and ask about the EU and the upcoming elections to the European Parliament!

Europe Day on 9 May marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, too. French foreign minister Robert Schuman’s declaration in 1950 is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union. Since 1985, Europe Day has been celebrated on 9 May.
