Prime Minister Juha Sipilä has been invited to be one of the keynote speakers and a panellist at the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø on Monday, 23 January. During the visit, Minister Sipilä will also have bilateral discussions with Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

The Prime Ministers will discuss the bilateral relations between the two countries, Nordic cooperation, and topical international and EU matters, such as Russia and Brexit.

The theme of the annual Arctic Frontiers event, ‘White Space – Blue Future’, focuses on outer space and the sea. The conference will debate the economic exploitation of the rapidly changing Arctic region in an ecologically sustainable manner. Ministers, researchers and representatives of the business world from several countries will attend the event.

The Finnish and Norwegian Prime Ministers will take part in a side-event for Norwegian and Finnish companies, convened by Arctic Frontiers. The objective is to create favourable conditions for cross-border technological cooperation and joint projects in the north. The following Finnish companies will attend that event: Aker Arctic Technology, Atlas Elektronik Finland, Beacon Finland, Bluet, Exel Composites, Halton Marine, Prizztech, Roadscanners and Team Arctic Finland / Gaia Consulting.

Finland is active in matters related to the Arctic. Arctic issues are even higher on our agenda than usually as Finland will be holding the presidency of the Arctic Council starting this spring and a Finnish business leader will be serving as the chair of the Arctic Economic Council (AEC).
