Prime Minister Sipilä to meet EU leaders in Helsinki

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä will meet prime ministers of EU countries in Helsinki on 19-20 February to continue the preparations for Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. At the Prime Minister’s Official Residence Kesäranta, Sipilä will first meet the Prime Minister of Slovenia Marjan Šarec and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte on 19 February, followed by the visit of the Prime Minister of Belgium Charles Michel on 20 February. The prime ministers will come to Helsinki to attend the meeting of the prime ministers of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe ALDE.

On the agenda of the meetings are the key themes of Finland’s Presidency, including the development of the internal market and climate issues. The prime ministers will also discuss topical EU affairs such as the next five-year strategy of the Council of the European Union and Brexit, as well bilateral relations between the countries. Finland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 July 2019 to 31 December 2019.
