Minister Lindström to Romania to discuss the EU Trio Programme

Minister of Employment Jari Lindström and Minister of Social Affairs and Health Pirkko Mattila will invite their Romanian and Croatian minister colleagues to visit Finland later this autumn.

Romania, Finland and Croatia will make up the Presidency Trio of the Council of the European Union from January 2019 to June 2020. The three countries are currently preparing a common agenda determining the topics addressed by the Council over an 18-month period. The Trio Programme will be published later this autumn.

The ministers of employment and social affairs will meet in Romania on 17–18 September 2018 to discuss the Trio Programme. Finland will be represented by Minister of Employment Jari Lindström and Director-General Veli-Mikko Niemi from the International Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The meeting is a follow-up on the discussions held in Dubrovnik earlier this year.

“We in Finland and the ministries will continue the work to define the thematic priorities for Finland’s EU Presidency. The Trio Programme is an important element of this process, which is why we are inviting our Romanian and Croatian colleagues to continue our discussions in Helsinki,” says Minister of Employment Lindström.

“Our goal is a comprehensive approach to the promotion of sustainable, smart and inclusive growth in the EU. This is closely linked to the transformation of work and the skills challenges associated with it. Promoting the mobility of workers is one means of adjusting to them,” Minister Lindström says.

In Romania, the Trio partners will also discuss gender equality on the labour market and the promotion of occupational health and safety.
