Defence Minister Niinistö to Japan

Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö will make a working visit to Japan on 3 to 7 February 2019. Japan's Minister of Defense Takeshi Iwaya who took on the post in October 2018 will host the visit. His predecessor Itsunori Onodera visited Helsinki, on invitation by Minister Niinistö, in May 2018.

In the official negotiations, the Ministers will discuss the bilateral relations between Japan and Finland, bilateral cooperation between the Finnish and Japanese defence administrations, regional security issues, and defence equipment cooperation.

During the visit, Minister Niinistö will familiarise himself with Japan's defence industry and take part in a Finnish-Japanese industrial seminar. The working visit will be carried out in cooperation with the Defence and Aviation Industry Association of Finland (PIA) and companies in the field of defence and security that the PIA represents.
