Permit processing time reduces by half — automation speeds up decisions

The development measures of the employment and economic development services (TE services), the Finnish Immigration Service and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment reduced the processing time of residence permits for employed persons to an average of 41 days in February 2024 from the previous year’s figure of 77 days.

The European Commission has granted funding for a project that seeks solutions to changes brought by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine to the operating environment in eastern Finland.

The number of unemployed jobseekers rose by 31,600 from February of last year. The number of new vacancies reported totalled 66,700. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies in February was 151,400, which is 46,900 fewer than a year ago.
Finland continues funding UNRWA— funds directed to prevention of misconduct

Finland’s support for the UNRWA is EUR 5 million annually. Ten per cent of the support will be directed for strengthening the organisation's oversight activities.
Government submits supplementary budget proposal to Parliament

On Thursday 21 March, the Government submitted a supplementary budget proposal for 2024 to Parliament. The proposal includes appropriations for speeding up the construction of the fence on the eastern border, introducing targeted measures to alleviate the situation in the construction sector and providing additional support to Ukraine. In addition, it proposes reducing revenue estimates by EUR 1.3 billion based on the forecast published by the Ministry of Finance in December 2023.
