Ahti Kurvinen appointed as Director of Government Security

On 19 June, the Government appointed General Staff Officer, Colonel Ahti Kurvinen to the post of Ministerial Adviser at the Prime Minister’s Office, starting on 1 July 2019. The Ministerial Adviser will also take up duties as Director of Government Security and as Head of the Preparedness Unit of the Government Administration Department.

Ahti Kurvinen has served as Head of Planning of the Finnish Army since 2018. He has also served as Commander of the Guard Jaeger Regiment in 2016–2018, at the Defence Command in 2014–2016, as Student Officer in the United States in 2013–2014, as Chief of Staff of the Karelia Brigade in 2012–2013, as Staff Officer at the Ministry of Defence in 2009–2011, in crisis management duties in 2009 and 2000, as Battalion Commander in 2007–2009, and as Lecturer at the National Defence University in 1998–2000.

The Government preparedness Unit is responsible for the Government’s joint disruption and emergency preparedness and the related planning and coordination, support for leadership in disruptions and emergency situations, and Government’s situation reviews and analysis activities. The Unit is also responsible for the Government’s security and provision of security services for the Government ministers.
