Raappana appointed as Prime Minister Sipilä's special adviser in international affairs

Counsellor Jani Raappana will start in his duties as Prime Minister Juha Sipilä’s Special Adviser in International Affairs on 1 August.

Raappana has earlier worked in the Department for the Americas and Asia and the Political Department in the Foreign Ministry. He has experience of the Diplomatic Service from Europe, Middle East and Asia. Raappana has also served in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Central America.

Raappana joined the Foreign Service in 1999 and completed the Training Course for Newly Recruited Diplomats in 2004. He holds the degree of Master of Social Sciences in international politics. It is customary that the prime minister’s special adviser in international affairs comes from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Anna-Kaisa Heikkinen, who has held the special adviser's office since 2014, will return to the Foreign Ministry and take up duties as Head of Mission of the Representative Office in Ramallah on 1 September 2017.
