Press release 589/2019

On Monday 18 November, Prime Minister Antti Rinne will visit Brussels to meet the incoming European Council President Charles Michel, next European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, and Commissioner-designate for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen.

The main topic to be discussed with Charles Michel, who will take office on 1 December, is the agenda of the December European Council. The European Council will convene on 12–13 December, with the key focus on promoting the EU’s climate work and negotiations on the next multiannual financial framework. The meeting between Prime Minister Rinne, incoming European Commission President von der Leyen, Commissioner Dombrovskis and future Commissioner Urpilainen will focus on the new Commission's work programme.

Prime Minister Rinne has maintained close contacts with the new leaders of the European Council and Commission. He met von der Leyen in Brussels in September, and both von der Leyen and Michel in Helsinki in October.
