Prime Minister Sipilä to the Baltic States and Poland

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä will visit Lithuania and Poland on Wednesday 6 March, and the visits to Latvia and Estonia will take place on Thursday 7 March. He will meet the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaité and Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister of Latvia Arturs Krišjānis Kariņš and Prime Minister of Estonia Jȕri Ratas. The purpose of the visits is to prepare for Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which starts in July. Also on the agenda are other topical EU affairs and bilateral relations between the countries.

Key topics to be discussed are the main EU themes for Finland’s Presidency, including finalising the next Multiannual Financial Framework, finding a comprehensive solution to controlling migration, EMU and its development, and Brexit. During the Presidency Finland will also focus on the development of the Single Market, deepening the EU’s common security and defence policy, and measures by the EU to mitigate climate change.

Prime Minister Sipilä will have bilateral talks with all EU Heads of State or Government before the start of Finland’s Presidency.
