The President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy decided on Finland's participation in NATO training mission in Iraq

The President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy decided on Friday 10 August that Finland will provide a small number of staff officers and trainers to the NATO training mission in Iraq. Established during the NATO Summit in July, the mission aims to support Iraqi security forces especially by developing their military training system. The goal is to create sustainable national security structures to maintain stability in the country.

The Committee discussed the European Intervention Initiative proposed by France.

The meeting between the US president Trump and Russian president Putin, held in Helsinki on 16 July, and current Russia-related matters were also discussed in the meeting.
