Europe 2020 programme places focus on employment and innovation

On 2 April, the Government adopted Finland’s National Programme 2015 under the Europe 2020 strategy. Despite the difficult economic situation, Finland continues work towards achieving the objectives set out in strategy. The vision of the Europe 2020 Strategy is smart, sustainable and inclusive economy.

The national programme provides a description of what Finland has done to fulfil the country-specific recommendations adopted by the EU Council last summer. The country-specific recommendations relate to the:

  • long-term sustainability of public finances
  • productivity of public services
  • ways of improving especially the labour force participation rate of older workers
  • competition in goods and services market
  • innovation and productivity in the private sector

There are also measures relating to the national objectives set by Finland. They concern:

  • employment
  • research and development
  • climate and energy
  • education
  • reduction of poverty

The Europe 2020 Strategy is the EU's growth strategy for the ongoing decade with the aim of turning the EU into a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy. These three mutually complementing priorities enable the EU and its Member States to achieve a high level of employment, productivity and social inclusion.
