The Digital Summit is arranged in Tallinn on 16–17 September where EU leaders discuss the future of artificial intelligence. Finland is represented in the Summit by the Minister of Local Government and Ownership Steering Sirpa Paatero.

Ministers and experts from around 20 countries are coming to the Tallinn Digital Summit. According to Prime Minister of Estonia Jüri Ratas, the annual Summit is becoming a cooperation platform for digitally advanced countries that share similar views and together promote policies and laws to enable a digital society.

This year, the Summit will discuss the future of artificial intelligence. A key topic is especially how artificial intelligence can be developed in a responsible way and what are the ethical principles of utilising artificial intelligence.

“By fully utilising new technologies we seek substantial productivity growth, better quality of services and accessibility in public administration as a whole. If we wish to produce added value with artificial intelligence, we must remain at the forefront of development and also at the centre of discussions. In concrete terms, this can be attained by combining the EU countries’ national programmes to each other. Finland and Estonia have already started to explore concrete cooperation opportunities between Finland's AuroraAI programme and Estonia's sister projects. We also want other EU countries to take part in the cooperation in the coming years,” says Minister of Local Government and Ownership Steering Sirpa Paatero, who will attend the Summit.
