Press release of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland

The European Union has appointed Kirsi Henriksson, M.A., to the position of Deputy Head of the European Union EUCAP Sahel Mali civilian crisis management mission starting from 1 November 2014.

The main task of the EU civilian crisis management mission established in April 2014 is to strengthen the capacity of internal security actors in Mali (the police, the gendarmerie, the national guard) through education, advice and mentoring. The mission is part of broader efforts by the EU and the international community to support stability in the Sahel region. The mission is in the planning phase and will be launched in spring 2015.

Henriksson has extensive experience of crisis management tasks. She has previously worked, among others, in the Crisis Management Centre Finland and the EUJUST LEX-Iraq mission. Henriksson transfers to the EUCAP Sahel Mali mission from the EU’s EUBAM Libya border control mission.
