Gardemeister appointed Deputy Director General, Tuominen to continue as Director General of the Consular Services

In its session on 13 June, the Government appointed a new Deputy Director General to the Department for External Economic Relations.

The Government appointed Leena Gardemeister to serve as Deputy Director General of the Department for External Economic Relations of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for a fixed term from 1 August 2019 to 31 August 2023.

She was Head of the Mission of Finland in Tunis from 2017 to 2019.

In 2010–2013, she worked as Head of the Unit for Export Control at the Ministry.

In the Diplomatic Service, Gardemeister has served in London, Brussels and Kuala Lumpur. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences. Gardemeister joined the Ministry in 1999.

Additionally, the Government appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Pasi Tuominen to continue as Director General of the Consular Services for a fixed period from 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2022.
