Monitoring data on the Government

Government Communications Department
Publication date 15.9.2014 10.00
Press release 383/2014

The data showing performance by Alexander Stubb’s Cabinet in putting its Programme into effect will be released today at the Open Finland 2014 Event. The performance data will be updated once a month. This is the first time that the data is made freely accessible to the public. The data and related descriptions are available on the websites of the Government and the Prime Minister’s Office as well as from the avoindata.fi service.

The data contains the sections of the Government Programme outlining the actions to be taken by the Government. To facilitate monitoring, the relevant sections are broken down into smaller sub-sections called entries. The data is provided in tabular format as csv files.

The data consist of four sets:
1) the entries and the metadata describing the entries;
2) the ministries responsible for the implementation of the entries;
3) description of the progress made in the implementation;
4) contact details of the person making the entry.

For now, the data structure of the information is still in the pilot stage. Therefore the Government requests feedback on the following aspects through the avoindata.net service:
1) metadata and its structure;
2) visualisation potential;
3) other information that should be combined with the metadata.

At this point, the data constitutes an independent body of data. However, its uses can be diversified over the next few years through links to other data, such as budget information.
