Niina Hyrsky appointed as Director of Communications at the Ministry of Defence

On 5 July 2018, the Government appointed Niina Hyrsky, Master of Social Sciences, as Director of Communications at the Ministry of Defence for a period of five years, starting on 1 September 2018.

Ms Hyrsky has acted as a Press and Culture Officer at the Embassy of Finland in Stockholm and, prior to that appointment, she has worked as Director of Communications at Handelsbanken Finland. She has gained extensive experience in working as a news editor and producer at the National Broadcasting Company, the daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat and the commercial TV channel Nelonen.

Headed by the Director of Communications, the Media and Communications Unit is part of the Ministry of Defence's management and takes part in the Management Group's work. While the Director of Communications is responsible for external and internal communications and for providing expert support to the management, she will also guide and coordinate the principles of communications within the administrative branch.
