Nina Vaskunlahti appointed Under-Secretary of State for external economic relations

At its session on 16 May, the Government decided to appoint a Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Nina Vaskunlahti to serve as Under-Secretary of State for external economic relations at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for a fixed term from 24 June 2019 to 31 August 2023.

Nina Vaskunlahti has worked as Head of the Mission of Finland in New Delhi since 2016.

She has also served as Finland’s Ambassador to Ankara, Greece. Her postings to the Diplomatic Service include service in Moscow and Canberra. 

Vaskunlahti worked for over 10 years at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU, where she held various positions, serving among other things as Deputy Head of Mission.

At the Ministry, Vaskunlahti has worked for example as Director General of the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. She has held also special assignments both in the European Union and in an international organisation coordinating the economic reconstruction of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo.

She holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences. Vaskunlahti joined the Ministry in 1984.
