Press release

On 3 April 2019, Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö will attend a minister-level consultation and decision-making exercise in London on the use of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) led by Great Britain.

Built around the British-led force, the JEF cooperation aims at developing military capabilities and the ability to prevent and, when necessary, together respond to different crises. Finland's participation is based on the need to develop the national defence capability and interoperability. Cooperation is part of the defence cooperation between Finland and Great Britain and with other countries taking part in the JEF.

The JEF force reached full operational capability in June 2018. The nine partner nations - Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden - signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the role and use of the JEF force at that time.

Inquiries: Special Adviser Mika Varvikko on the consultation and decision-making exercise, tel. +358 295 140316.
