NATO invites Finland and Sweden to join the Alliance

NATO countries invited Sweden and Finland to join the military alliance at the NATO summit in Madrid. Finland’s accession protocol will be signed by July 5 at the latest. After that, Finland becomes an observer member of NATO. Finland is then entitled to attend NATO meetings. As an observer Finland will not be entitled to vote.

Pride Week will take place 27.6. - 3.7.2022 under the theme of Encounters. The pinnacle of Pride Week is the Helsinki Pride parade and parade park picnic.

Finns are increasingly worried about state of nature – biodiversity loss is now recognised as threat

56% of the respondents are worried or very worried about the state of Finnish nature, while 80% are worried or very worried about the state of the world’s nature.
Finns are clearly much more worried about the state of nature on the global scale than about the state of Finnish nature. A barometer on the connection to nature was conducted to find out about our relationship with nature and with preserving biodiversity, and how the responsibilities should be divided between the different stakeholders.

European Council granted candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova

On 23 June, the European Council discussed the membership applications from Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia and the support for Ukraine and held a strategic discussion on the EU’s relations with its partners in Europe and the Western Balkans.
