Budget session of Prime Minister Orpo's Government: Returning Finland to a sustainable growth track

In its first budget session, the Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo decided on solutions that will return Finland to a sustainable growth track.

The Government will launch structural reforms to boost employment and growth, which will have positive impacts on general government finances in the next few years. In addition, the Government decided on consolidation measures.

The Government has issued a resolution on communications during the current government term. The resolution replaces the communication strategy of the previous government term. The resolution describes the common objectives and methods of government communications and is an important element of the Government’s strategic leadership.

Ministers for European affairs to discuss EU language regulation and start preparations for October European Council

The EU General Affairs Council (GAC) will meet on Tuesday 19 September in Brussels. Their agenda will include discussing Spain's request to amend Regulation No 1/1958 (the EU language regulation), preparing for the European Council's October meeting, and continuing the GAC’s rule of law dialogue. Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz will represent Finland at the meeting.

Restrictions on import of vehicles registered in Russia

Finland will implement the European Commission’s guidance (FAQ) on prohibiting the import of vehicles registered in Russia.

Ministers Valtonen and Tavio to attend high-level week of UN General Assembly in New York

The high-level meetings of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78) will start in New York on Monday 18 September. Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend ministerial events in New York and have bilateral meetings with their counterparts and with representatives of the UN. Minister Tavio’s programme will also include meetings to promote Finland’s commercial and economic interests in the New York metropolitan area.

Finland preparing to send material assistance to Libya

Libya has requested assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism following the destruction caused by Storm Daniel on 12 September. Libya has requested a wide range of assistance, including shelters, medical supplies and expert assistance.
