Sipilä’s Government appointed

On Friday 29 May 2015, the President of the Republic appointed Finland’s 74th Government. At the same time, the President of the Republic released the ministers of Alexander Stubb's Government from their duties. The Government headed by Prime Minister Juha Sipilä consists of 14 ministers. The Centre Party has six ministerial posts. The Finns Party and the National Coalition Party have four ministerial posts each.

On Friday 29 May, the President of the Republic will appoint Finland’s 74th Government at a presidential session starting at 10.00. At the same time, the President of the Republic will release the ministers of Alexander Stubb's Government from their duties. The Government headed by Prime Minister Juha Sipilä will consist of 14 ministers. The Centre Party will have six ministerial posts. The Finns Party and the National Coalition Party will have four ministerial posts each.

Government formation talks concluded

The government formation talks, which started in the beginning of May, have been brought to a conclusion. The final press conference of the negotiations will be held at 14.00 on Wednesday 27 May. The agreement on a new government programme,  the  number of ministers per party and the division of responsibilities between ministers will be published at the press conference.

All key issues of the government formation talks have been resolved. The Government Programme is being finalised on Tuesday in the Government Banquet Hall. Juha Sipilä, leader of the government formation talks, said yesterday that the number of ministries will remain at  twelve. Negotiations will continue on the number of ministers and the contents of their portfolios.

The final press conference of the negotiations will be held at 14.00 on Wednesday 27 May.

Government formation talks on the final stretch

The negotiations to form a new government are continuing today on Monday in the Government Banquet Hall. Yesterday, the parties to the government formations talks agreed on a EUR 1.6 billion investment package to increase repair activities and promote the strategic flagship initiatives. According to the negotiation steering group, party leaders Juha Sipilä, Timo Soini and Alexander Stubb, the programme will be implemented over the next three years.

Discussions on the composition of the ministries and number of ministers will continue on Monday.

According to Sipilä, all key issues have now been resolved. Information on the outcome will be given at a press conference on Wednesday 27 May. If the schedule holds, the new government will be appointed on Friday 29 May. Sipilä also said on Sunday that in June the new Government will work in an open floor-plan office together with key officials to draw up the Government Action Plan. The ministers will move to their new ministries only after this has been accomplished.

Good progress in government formation talks

The parties to the government formations talks have agreed on a EUR 1.6 billion investment package to increase repair activities and promote the strategic flagship initiatives. According to the negotiation steering group, party leaders Juha Sipilä, Timo Soini and Alexander Stubb, the programme will be implemented over the next three years.

Discussions on the composition of the ministries and number of ministers will continue on Monday morning at 08.30.

Sipilä said that all key issues have now been resolved. Information on the outcome will be given at a press conference on Wednesday, 27 May. Sipilä also said that in June the new Government will work in an open floor-plan office together with key civil servants to draw up the Government Action Plan. The ministers will move to their new ministries only after this has been accomplished.

The negotiations to form a new government continue on Sunday in the Government Banquet Hall under the leader of the government formation talks, Juha Sipilä. The key economy and taxation guidelines were agreed upon yesterday. Today, the party leaders will examine, for example, the composition of the ministries.

"Today, we will examine certain unresolved issues and make sure that we have a common understanding of the made decisions", Sipilä said in the morning.

The government formation talks continue in the Government Banquet Hall on Wednesday with meetings of some of the working groups. Rapid progress made in government formation talks

Negotiations to form a new government have proceeded more rapidly than expected. Groups preparing guidelines for Finland's EU policy, foreign and security policy and migration policy are expected to get their work done still on Tuesday. Tomorrow on Wednesday the press conference will be held at 15.30 when the results of the groups will be told.

According to leader of the government formation talks, Centre Party leader Juha Sipilä, they will be able to start discussing economic issues tomorrow, one day earlier than was expected. In addition, the compositions of the new working groups will be published.

Prime Minister’s resignation to the President of the Republic

Prime Minister Alexander Stubb has submitted the resignation of the Government to President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö in Mäntyniemi today, on 28 April 2015.

The President has accepted the Government's resignation and asked it to continue on a caretaker basis until a new government has been appointed.
