5.12.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will visit Japan on 9–12 December. The purpose of the visit is to deepen cooperation between Finland and Japan, to discuss the current foreign and security policy situation and to strengthen contacts between Finnish and Japanese businesses. A business delegation put together by Business Finland will accompany the Prime Minister on the visit.

1.10.2024 | Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will visit Japan from 2 October to 7 October. The Minister will attend the meeting of the Science and Technology in Society forum, meet key figures in the field of science and culture and learn about topics and places of interest.

27.12.2022 | Japan har godkänt Finlands riskhanteringsåtgärder i fråga om galna ko-sjukan (BSE) och att finskt nötkött exporteras till den japanska marknaden. Exporten från finländska anläggningar kan inledas omedelbart.

Orpo och Ishiba diskuterade sina länders bilaterala politiska och handelsekonomiska relationer. På agendan stod också aktuella internationella frågor. Statsminister Orpo och premiärminister Ishiba diskuterade läget i Ukraina och landets behov av stöd, och uttryckte sin allvarliga oro över det ökade militära samarbetet mellan Ryssland och Nordkorea.

15.6.2026 | The Ministry of Defence has published a report on Finland’s exports of defence materiel in 2025. The report provides statistical data on both the granted export licences and actual exports.

3.6.2021 | Den överenskommelse som gjordes med Japan år 2019 har godkänts av riksdagen.  Bestämmelserna om överenskommelsens ikraftträdande utfärdas särskilt genom förordning av statsrådet. Enligt reglerna i överenskommelsen ska bland annat arbetstagare som arbetat i endera avtalsstaten undvika dubbla pensions- och arbetslöshetsförsäkringsavgifter.

10.12.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Prime Minister of Japan Shigeru Ishiba met in Tokyo on Tuesday 10 December. Their talks focused on bilateral political, trade and economic relations between the countries. They also discussed a variety of topical international issues. The prime ministers addressed the situation in Ukraine and the need for support, and shared their serious concerns about increased military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

12.12.2024 | On Thursday 12 December, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo gave a talk about Finland’s climate action at the University of Kyoto. After the talk, students had the opportunity to ask the Prime Minister questions about the topic. Orpo also paid a visit to the Osaka 2025 Expo grounds, where a joint Nordic pavilion is currently being built. Orpo is the first head of state or government to visit the World Expo grounds.

10.12.2024 | Key information processing skills needed by Finland’s adult population (aged 16 to 65) in different areas of life were assessed in the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). The survey focused on literacy, numeracy and adaptive problem-solving skills. By international standards, Finland ranked at the top in literacy and numeracy skills.
