7.9.2022 | On 2 September, the Finnish police decided to interrupt the active criminal investigation measures requested by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. On 17 December 2019, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs requested the police to investigate how certain internal documents wound up in the public domain.

5.5.2022 | A Twinning project in Azerbaijan, led by Statistics Finland, focusing on Finnish data usage and statistical expertise, was very different from any previous Twinning projects. The project was launched remotely in June 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and it progressed despite the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the new virus variants. The closing event of the project on 11 April 2022 in Baku attracted enormous media attention.

This will make it possible to use various services both in person and online and will improve the protection of privacy. The Ministry of Finance launched a round of public consultation concerning the legislative amendments relating to the digital identity card on 21 February.

21.6.2021 | In connection with its General Assembly, the UN will organise a High-level Dialogue on Energy in New York in September. This is the first time since 1981 that the UN addresses energy issue at this level. 29.5.2026 | Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will open the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris on 3 June. Finland will chair the meeting for the first time in more than 40 years. Several ministers from Finland will attend the meeting. In Paris, Prime Minister Orpo will also have a bilateral meeting with the French President Emmanuel Macron.

The legislation will enter into force on 1 June 2026, with transitional periods aligned with those of the CRA during 2026–2027. The aim of the CRA is to improve the cybersecurity of products.

14.2.2022 | Finland is preparing a national digital compass during spring 2022. In its meeting on 14 February 2022, the Ministerial Working Group on Developing the Digital Transformation, the Data Economy and Public Administration approved Finland’s digital vision for 2030 and set targets for the national digital compass as a basis for further work.

29.1.2026 | On 29 January 2026, the Government submitted a communication to Parliament on the proposals of the European Commission and European Parliament for two regulations: the Digital Omnibus, which simplifies the EU’s digital rulebook, and the Digital Omnibus on AI, which simplifies the implementation of the harmonised rules on artificial intelligence.

The survey will be open until Wednesday 29 April 2026. The main target group for the survey consists of key organisations for implementing the choices and putting them to use, including public and private RDI financiers, research organisations, businesses and branches of government, regional actors and other stakeholders.

11.3.2026 | On 11 March, Parliament passed a bill for legislative amendments that will cause public authorities to primarily send digital messages to people who are already using digital services provided by the authorities. Paper mail will remain an option. This change is scheduled to enter into force on 14 April once the amendments have been adopted.

The signatories of the letter include the coastal states of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea: Finland, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom as well as Iceland.
