21.9.2023 | The Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU will hold an informal meeting of transport ministers in Barcelona on 21–22 September 2023. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting. It will be an informal meeting where no decisions are taken.

26.3.2024 | The European Commission has granted funding for a project that seeks solutions to changes brought by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine to the operating environment in eastern Finland.

19.9.2023 | EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira will visit Finland on 20–22 September. During her visit, Ferreira will meet Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman and attend an event on future EU regional and structural policy in Mikkeli on 21 September. Commissioner Ferreira will also meet Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz.

25.9.2023 | Permanent Secretary Minna Kivimäki will visit Paris on 25–26 September 2023 to exert influence on EU decision-making. Kivimäki will meet representatives of OECD and the International Transport Forum as well as the ministries responsible for transport and communications matters, for example.

According to a recently completed final evaluation of the REACT-EU additional funding, the funding has been implemented successfully, considering the other pandemic-related funding instruments used at the same time.

One of the main topics of the meeting will be Nordic cooperation in times of crisis with a particular focus on the role of the ministers for Nordic cooperation in ensuring the exchange of information between the countries. At the meeting, ministers will adopt a joint declaration on cooperation during crises.

According to these scenarios which extend to 2040, regional development may be globally selective, concentrated on raw materials and tourism, patchwork-like or balanced.
