17.10.2023 | Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs will open a call for discretionary government grant applications for the organisation of continuing training on international environmental law and diplomacy. The call for applications will be open for universities and other organisers of continuing training from 17 October to 3 November 2023 at 16:00.

23.11.2022 | The Ministerial Council of the European Space Agency (ESA) was held in Paris on 22–23 November 2022. At the Ministerial Council, which is organised every three years, the Member States decide on the priorities, programmes and funding of ESA’s activities for the coming years.

23.11.2023 | On Thursday 23 November, the Government submitted its proposal to Parliament to amend the budget proposal for 2024. Among others, the proposal includes amendments related to support for Ukraine, the health and social services transfer calculation and central government transfers to local government. In line with the proposal, the revenue estimate will be increased by EUR 76 million, while the need for appropriations will decrease by EUR 48 million.

29.9.2021 | The World Bank’s new Coach programme aims to improve learning outcomes by supporting teacher professional development (TPD) in developing countries. Finland supports the global part of the initiative and its piloting in Mozambique.

18.1.2022 | On Tuesday 18 January, the Government held an extensive discussion on the need to update the COVID-19 strategy in response to changes in the situation caused by the rapidly spreading Omicron variant. The discussions were based on expert assessments the Government received on the epidemiological situation and the burden on medical care in the coming weeks, and on views about the need to amend the current operating strategy.

10.8.2021 | The COVID-19 pandemic has reversed progress in the global education goals by two decades. The crisis has dropped many children out of school and deteriorated the quality of education. Finnish development cooperation in the education sector tackles the global learning crisis by promoting the quality of education. Particular attention is paid to girls and to children and youth in the most vulnerable position.

24.6.2021 | As per its Programme, the Government wants to facilitate the stay of foreign researchers, students and their families in Finland by extending residence permits and streamlining permit procedures. The proposal aims to make Finland a more attractive destination for skilled labour.

On 10 February 2022, the Government allocated a total of approximately EUR 21.6 million of Innovation and Skills in Finland programme funding for the implementation of ecosystem agreements and approximately EUR 6.9 million for the launch of a national innovation and skills network in 2022.
