16.9.2021 | Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen opened the first in a series of EU discussion events in Helsinki on Thursday 16 September. This autumn and winter, Finnish ministers will tour the country to discuss the future of Europe with Finnish people. The ministers’ “We are Europe” tour is part of the Conference on the Future of Europe.

24.5.2022 | On 1 June, the Economic Council chaired by Prime Minister Sanna Marin will organise a conference on the theme of ecologically sustainable economic policy in the 2020s. The keynote speaker at the event will be Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta, whose report emphasising the economic importance of biodiversity has attracted wide international attention.

19.10.2022 | In its meeting on Wednesday 19 October, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the October European Council, three other upcoming meetings and the EU’s single market emergency instrument. Topics on the agenda for the October European Council (20–21 October) include Ukraine and Russia’s war of aggression, food security and critical infrastructure, energy and economic issues, and external relations.

25.10.2021 | Finland has invited the Nordic transport ministers to an informal climate meeting on 26 October 2021. The meeting will be arranged by means of online connections and it will be chaired by Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka.

18.11.2021 | Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will represent Finland at the Foreign Affairs Council meeting of EU development ministers on 19 November in Brussels.

19.10.2021 | On Tuesday 19 October, Prime Minister Sanna Marin will attend a video meeting with the President of the European Council and the leaders of three other EU Member States.

5.5.2021 | In its meeting on Wednesday 5 May, the Ministerial Committee for European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions leading up to the Social Summit, the informal meeting of heads of state or government and the EU-India Leaders’ Meeting to be held in Porto on 7 and 8 May.

16.7.2021 | European Commission published new EU Forest Strategy on 16 July 2021, aiming for better coordination on forest-related initiatives as well as increasing the cooperation of Member States on forests. The Strategy highlights climate and biodiversity targets, which are important also for Finland. The strategy has evolved towards more balanced version during the preparation by the Commission, leaving however room for improvement in the initiatives to follow.

22.11.2021 | Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will visit Oslo on 22–23 November. Minister Skinnari will meet ministers of Norway’s new Government and visit a waste treatment plant that makes use of carbon capture technologies. The Minister will also attend a seminar organised by the Finnish and Norwegian Shipowners Associations and the Embassy of Finland in Oslo.

25.3.2021 | At the request of Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä, Patria Oyj’s Chairman of the Board Panu Routila has investigated the industrial future of the Naantali region. According to Routila, the region has significant potential to become a new hub for bioeconomy and circular economy.

16.11.2021 | Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen is inviting young people from Oulu, North Ostrobothnia and the Barents Euro-Arctic region to share their thoughts about Europe and its future on 30 November in Oulu. That same day, residents of the Oulu area are invited discuss EU matters over coffee with Minister for European Affairs Tuppurainen at an open event at the H20 Konstila café located in the Cultural Centre Valve.

13.7.2021 | This autumn and winter, Finnish ministers will tour the country to listen to Finns’ ideas and hopes for the future of Europe. The citizens’ messages will be passed on as part of an EU-level reflection on what kind of Europe we want to build.

23.9.2021 | The UN Food Systems Summit will be held virtually on 23 September during the UN General Assembly in New York. Finland’s representative at the meeting will be President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö. Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari, in his role as the World Food Programme’s School Meals Champion, will speak at the event on school meals.

20.10.2021 | In its meeting on Wednesday 20 October, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the rise in energy prices and other issues on the agenda at the October European Council.

10.5.2021 | The main themes of the General Affairs Council meeting on Tuesday 11 May in Brussels will be the preparations for the special European Council on 24–25 May and the coordination of the EU’s response to COVID-19. Minister of European Affairs and Ownership Steering Tytti Tuppurainen is unable to attend the meeting due to quarantine regulations and Parliament’s vote on the EU recovery package on Wednesday 12 May.

21.9.2021 | On 20 September 2021, Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen listened to the views of Vantaa upper secondary students on future working life. The discussion centred on young people’s wellbeing and equal opportunities to study and work in the EU. The event was part of the Government’s “We are Europe” tour.

18.2.2022 | Energy prices have risen substantially over the past year both in Finland and throughout Europe. Energy prices have risen less in Finland than the euro zone average, but significantly nonetheless. The Government has decided on temporary targeted measures in response to rising energy prices.

30.10.2025 | Världens länder samlas i Belém, Brasilien, för klimatmötet COP30 den 10–21 november. Mötet sammanfaller med femårscykeln då länderna förväntas göra nya åtaganden om utsläppsminskning.

6.5.2025 | Pohjoismaisia ratkaisuja ilmastonmuutokseen varautumiseksi on esillä Rovaniemellä 14.−15. toukokuuta 2025 järjestettävässä Pohjoismaisessa ilmastonmuutokseen sopeutumiskonferenssi NOCCA 2025:ssa. Tapahtuma on osa Suomen ja Ahvenanmaan puheenjohtajuuskautta Pohjoismaiden ministerineuvostossa.

6.5.2025 | Nordiska lösningar för beredskap för klimatförändringar står på programmet vid den nordiska konferensen om klimatanpassning NOCCA 2025 i Rovaniemi den 14–15 maj 2025. Konferensen är en del av Finlands och Ålands ordförandeskap i Nordiska ministerrådet.

7.2.2025 | Eri puolilla Eurooppaa on viime vuosina jouduttu kohtaamaan yhä useammin ilmastonmuutoksen voimistamia sään ääri-ilmiöitä, joista aiheutuvat taloudelliset ja inhimilliset vahingot ovat jyrkässä kasvussa. Kevään aikana yhteistyötä ilmastoriskien hallinnassa tiivistetään sekä Suomessa että Euroopassa.

3.6.2024 | YK:n ilmastoneuvottelut jatkuvat Saksan Bonnissa 3.–13.6. Virkamiesneuvotteluissa valmistellaan marraskuussa Bakussa pidettävän ilmastokokouksen päätöksiä muun muassa rahoitustavoitteesta ja jatketaan työtä fossiilisista polttoaineista irtaantumiseksi.

3.6.2024 | FN:s klimatförhandlingar fortsätter i Bonn i Tyskland den 3–13 juni. Vid tjänstemannaförhandlingarna bereds de beslut som ska fattas vid klimatkonferensen i Baku i november bland annat angående finansieringsmålet. Dessutom fortsätter arbetet med att fasa ut fossila bränslen.

6.6.2022 | Förhandlingar i enlighet med FN:s klimatkonvention och Parisavtalet görs i Bonn i Tyskland 6–16 juni 2022. Vid tjänstemannamötet förbereds nästa klimatmöte, dvs. klimatkonferensen COP27, som hålls i Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypten, i november 2022.

6.6.2022 | YK:n ilmastosopimuksen ja Pariisin sopimuksen mukaiset neuvottelut käydään Saksan Bonnissa 6.–16.6.2022. Virkamieskokouksessa valmistellaan marraskuussa 2022 Egyptin Sharm el-Sheikhissä pidettävää ilmastokokousta eli COP27-kokousta.
