27.6.2022 | Minister for Nordic Cooperation and Equality, Thomas Blomqvist, will attend a meeting of the Ministers for Nordic Cooperation in Halden, Norway, on 27–28 June. One of the main topics of the meeting will be Nordic cooperation in times of crisis with a particular focus on the role of the ministers for Nordic cooperation in ensuring the exchange of information between the countries. At the meeting, ministers will adopt a joint declaration on cooperation during crises.

8.12.2021 | In a report commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, likely future outlooks for regional development in Finland have been examined through four different scenarios. According to these scenarios which extend to 2040, regional development may be globally selective, concentrated on raw materials and tourism, patchwork-like or balanced.

19.8.2021 | Doctor of Social Sciences Mikko Vähä-Sipilä has been appointed Director at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment beginning on 24 August 2021. The Government decided on the appointment on 19 August 2021.

11.6.2021 | Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Tytti Tuppurainen and Spanish State Secretary for the European Union Juan González-Barba Pera will meet in Oulu on Monday 14 June. The meeting will focus on current European Union affairs, such as economic recovery, the rule of law and EU-Russia relations.

4.2.2021 | The Government has adopted a favourable position on the European Commission’s proposal on a Brexit adjustment reserve. The aid distributed from the reserve would help counter the negative impact of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, especially in the Member States, regions and sectors worst affected by it.

4.5.2021 | The final report of a trust survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) provides current information on people’s trust in government and public institutions in Finland and sets out recommendations on how government and governance can be improved to build and maintain public trust. The final report was published today, 4 May, in an online event opened by Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero.

25.2.2021 | The Finnish Government approved the content of REACT-EU funding on 25 February as part of the ongoing Sustainable growth and jobs structural funds programme. Allocation of recovery funds to regions will begin in spring 2021. This funding will particularly support SMEs from the perspective of digitalisation and a green economy.
