Children and young people said that child welfare should increase inclusion, reduce staff turnover and improve the regulation related to restrictive measures.

9.10.2023 | The Finnish Government proposes about EUR 16.2 billion in appropriations for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and its administrative branch for 2024. This is slightly over EUR 134 million more than in the 2023 Budget. The increase is due to needs assessment changes in pensions, for example, and to the implementation of reforms set out in the Government Programme.

16.4.2024 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government has agreed on the General Government Fiscal Plan for 2025–2028. The Government has made decisions that will improve the sustainability of public finances and create conditions for reversing the trend in indebtedness. The decisions aim to safeguard the key factors for future prosperity: employment, security, and knowledge and competence. Fairness has been one of the guiding principles of the decisions.

20.10.2022 | To support families with children, the Government proposes to raise the 2023 amounts of the child increment to unemployment security, the single-parent increment to child benefit, the family provider increment to study grant, and the basic social assistance for children under 18 years of age. A permanent raise is proposed to the maximum amount of the care increment to child home care allowance and private childcare allowance.

13.3.2025 | On 13 March 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal that aims to ensure essential work is performed during industrial action. The legislative project is based on a resolution issued by Parliament in 2022, the implementation of which is included in the Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government.

12.6.2025 | The Government proposed stricter legislation concerning micromobility on 12 June 2025. The amendments to the Road Traffic Act and the Vehicles Act would enter into force on 17 June 2025 and the amendments to the Act on Transport Services and the Act on the Transfer of Vehicles on 1 August 2025. The aim of the proposal is to improve the safety of electric scooters and other micromobility vehicles.
