27.2.2024 | This year, the recipient of the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators is Maima Grīnberga (b. 1969), who has been translating Finnish literature into Latvian with distinction. The prize, which has been awarded since 1975, is worth EUR 15,000. The Ministry of Education and Culture awards the prize annually based on a proposal by the Finnish Literature Exchange (FILI).

1.9.2026 | On 1 September 2026, the Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo reached a decision on its budget proposal for 2027 and is steadily implementing the agenda it agreed at the spending limits session. The agenda includes EUR 100 million of investment in construction and numerous transport infrastructure projects. The Government’s targeted measures will support economic growth.

21.6.2021 | With the declaration signed in Portugal on 21 June 2021, the EU Member States make the commitment to take determined action to eradicate homelessness by 2030.

14.3.2022 | The Government aims is to halve the number of homeless people during this Government term and to eradicate homelessness in the following years. Among the means used to eradicate homelessness is housing advice, and the Ministry of the Environment has launched a process to enact legislation on this.

13.10.2022 | The Ministry of the Environment has appointed Juha Kaakinen to examine ways to achieve the objective to eradicate homelessness. According to the Government Programme, homelessness should be halved during this Government term and abolished by 2027. Homelessness has decreased but not enough to reach the target.

10.2.2023 | The report commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment explores the trends in homelessness and means by which homelessness can be eradicated. Rapporteur Juha Kaakinen urges to continue the work in line with the Housing First principle and to further develop this so that support is readily available and serves homelessness that may be due to varying reasons in diverse ways. A key focus should be on groups that need services and support the most.

21.12.2023 | The Ministry of the Environment has introduced a programme to eradicate long-term homelessness. The aim of the programme is to end long-term homelessness by 2027.
