23.2.2021 | In their informal video meeting on 23 February, the EU ministers for European affairs discussed preparations for the informal video meeting of the members of the European Council and exchanged views on the European Democracy Action Plan. The ministers were also briefed on the state of play with regard to EU–UK relations and on the preparations for the Conference on the Future of Europe. 4.3.2021 | The Myllykoski hydropower plant will cease operating on Kuusamo’s River Kuusinkijoki, allowing threatened brown trout free access to extensive watercourse and lake areas. A binding letter of intent was signed in Helsinki on 4 March 2021. The power plant has been the only dam structure of the large catchment area. 8.4.2021 | The Government has proposed to enact a law on regional development and implementation of the European Union’s regional and structural policy (the implementation act) and a law on the funding of regional development and the European Union’s regional and structural policy projects (the funding act). 18.1.2021 | Minister for Nordic Cooperation and Equality Thomas Blomqvist, Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen, Minister of Education Jussi Saramo and the heads of central labour market organisations will meet on Tuesday 19 January to discuss equal pay. The meeting will focus on how to implement the joint Equal Pay Programme adopted in late 2020.
