27.9.2022 | Finansieringsinstrumentet för strategisk forskning har erbjudit mångsidiga möjligheter att organisera forskning inriktad på att utveckla samhällspolitik och -funktioner samt lösa betydande samhällsutmaningar. Detta konstateras i den utvärdering som publicerades den 27 september för att fastställa om målen som ställts upp för den strategiska forskningen har uppfyllts. I utvärderingen låg fokus på att se över perioden mellan 2014 och 2020.

4.5.2021 | The final report of a trust survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) provides current information on people’s trust in government and public institutions in Finland and sets out recommendations on how government and governance can be improved to build and maintain public trust. The final report was published today, 4 May, in an online event opened by Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero.

8.4.2021 | On 8 April, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal on discretionary government transfers to develop business operations in 2021‒2028. Government transfers under the proposed act would promote economic growth, employment, business innovation and competitiveness as well as other industrial and business policy objectives. The proposal is linked with the new programming period of the EU’s regional and structural policy in 2021‒2027.

16.4.2021 | Finland will participate in the annual UN Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks held from 19 April to 7 May 2021. The common theme of the Finnish delegation is comprehensive security.

15.3.2021 | The Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland will boost investment in emissions reducing solutions, accelerate sustainable growth in the economy, and create long-term growth potential. Half of the funding involved will be for promoting a green transition, and about a quarter will be for digitalisation. The Programme will also boost public investment in research, development and innovation by approximately EUR 700 million.

8.9.2021 | The Social Security Committee met on Monday 6 September to continue processing its position statements. The Committee also outlined several social security reforms for more rapid implementation. The Committee also discussed social security expenditure and financing, demographic trends, continuous learning, and income support reform.

24.2.2021 | The key challenge for the Finnish economy is to rise above the slow growth of the past decade. The economic challenges are not primarily related to the coronavirus recession. In Finland, with its ageing population, weak economic growth is a genuine threat to safeguarding the wellbeing of Finns. The working group considers average economic growth of 2% up to 2030 to be a realistic, if demanding, goal. 

9.9.2021 | The budget proposal of Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Government for 2022 builds sustainable growth for the future in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. The budget proposal aims to support post-pandemic recovery, accelerate investments, enable environmentally sustainable growth and increase the availability of skilled labour. The goal is to safeguard people’s wellbeing and to ensure favourable conditions for sustainable economic growth in the long term.

17.3.2021 | Together with the European Union, Finland has firmly condemned the military coup in Myanmar against its civilian government and urged restoration of the civilian government. The military authorities are demanded respect for human rights, the rule of law, freedom of assembly, and freedom of expression, including peaceful protests. The armed forces’ violence against protesters is strongly condemnable.

8.3.2021 | Pirjo Jantunen, Business Development Manager at Helen Oy, was appointed Finland’s Clean Energy Ambassador to International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) technology programme on 8 March 2021. International energy ambassadors serve as frontrunners making the energy sector more equal and as role models for women leaders of the next generation.
