14.8.2026 | At the presidential session on Friday 14 August, the President of the Republic appointed Jukka Pajarinen Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Riyadh, Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Jakarta and Janne Taalas Head of Finland’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York. Pajarinen and Suomela-Chowdhury will take up their posts on 1 September and Taalas on 1 November 2026.

25.11.2022 | Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä is heading a Team Finland visit to Chile and Colombia from 27 November to 2 December 2022 to promote Finnish companies’ exports and internationalisation. A business delegation of 23 people will consist of representatives from the energy, defence, security and space technology sectors, in particular.

Med på resan följer en företagsdelegation på 23 personer, särskilt inom energi-, försvars- och säkerhetsteknologi samt rymdteknologi.

19.11.2025 | A report of the Independent International Panel on Arbitrary detention in State-to-State Relations was published in New York on 28 October. Ambassador Marja Lehto served as the Vice-Chair of the Panel.

30.10.2024 | Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz will attend the 2024 Global Education Meeting (GEM) organised by UNESCO in Fortaleza, Brazil, on 31 October and 1 November 2024. Brazil is hosting the meeting as part of its G20 Presidency. The meeting will examine strategies needed to achieve the SDG4 Education 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and is expected to adopt the Fortaleza Declaration by the ministers.

27.11.2023 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in its trade configuration in Brussels on 27 November 2023. The trade ministers will discuss the preparations for the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, the EU’s trade agreement with Chile and the EU–US trade relations. The ministers will also discuss the EU’s ongoing bilateral trade negotiations.

4.4.2024 | The UN Human Rights Council adopted the resolution Combating Discrimination, Violence, and Harmful Practices against Intersex Persons on 4 April. The resolution was presented by Finland together with Australia, Chile and South Africa. Several states across the world also supported the resolution.

20.3.2023 | The priority theme of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), held in New York from 6 to 17 March 2023, was technology, innovation and education. The theme of technology and gender equality is important for Finland, and Finland is one of the leaders of the Action Coalition on Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality, which is part the Generation Equality Forum, a global campaign led by UN Women.

12.4.2024 | At the presidential session on 12 April, the President of the Republic appointed eight new Ambassadors and three new non-resident Ambassadors.

11.9.2023 | The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) will hold its 54th session from 11 September to 13 October in Geneva, Switzerland.

18.7.2023 | The leaders of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) met at a two-day summit in Brussels on 17 and 18 July. The aim of the third EU-CELAC Summit was to enhance cooperation and demonstrate a shared commitment to maintaining the rules-based international order.

28.6.2022 | The Unit for Sustainable Trade was established at the Department for International Trade last autumn. The Unit promotes discussion about themes linked to sustainable development in trade agreements and multilateral organisations.

27.10.2022 | More and more countries around the world are calling their foreign policy ‘feminist’. The concept has been discussed in Finland, too. Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will convene an international conference at the House of the Estates in Helsinki in November, discussing foreign policy that promotes gender equality.

3.6.2022 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise a thisisFINLAND Foreign Correspondents’ Programme (FCP) from 5 to 11 June 2022. The programme will give 13 young foreign correspondents and media professionals an opportunity to learn about Finland and the Finnish society.

The NDC (nationally determined contributions) Pipeline Accelerator Multi-Donor Trust Fund, ACL in short, is one of the IDB’s main climate finance facilities. Finland's contribution is EUR 5 million.

19.10.2021 | Policy Guidance on AI for Children, developed by the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF in partnership with Finland, was piloted by companies and public sector operators around the world during 2021. The second version of the guidance will be drafted on the basis of the results of the piloting and published in November 2021.

6.4.2021 | Finance ministers from more than 60 countries will gather today, Tuesday 6 April, from 16.30 to 18.30, for a meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action to discuss climate and economic policies.

In its spring meeting, the Coalition acquired eight new member countries, including the United States, Japan and South Korea.

16.3.2021 | Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a remote bilateral meeting on 16 March 2021. In their first meeting, the prime ministers had an extensive discussion on how to deepen concrete cooperation between their countries and addressed a number of key international issues.

31.5.2021 | Chile will host two major virtual meetings on the energy sector on 31 May and 3 June 2021. The annual Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and the Mission Innovation (MI) technology meeting will bring together representatives from 25 major economies and the Nordic countries as well as the EU, the UN and international energy organisations to discuss how to accelerate the transition to clean energy solutions globally. Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will represent Finland at the meetings.

3.10.2022 | The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published its annual Education at a Glance publication, which consists of internationally comparable indicators of education systems. The main theme of this year’s edition focuses on tertiary education. The report mainly covers 2020.

25.3.2025 | Undervisningsminister Anders Adlercreutz reste den 24–25 mars till Reykjavik för att delta i ett internationellt toppmöte för undervisningsministrar och lärarorganisationer, International Summit on the Teaching Profession 2025 (ISTP).

30.10.2024 | Undervisningsminister Anders Adlercreutz deltar i Unescos globala möte för undervisningsministrar (Global Education Meeting, GEM) i Fortaleza i Brasilien den 31 oktober till den 1 november 2024. Brasilien står värd för mötet som en del av sitt G20-ordförandeskap. Vid mötet granskas de åtgärder som behövs för att uppnå utbildningsmålet i FN:s Agenda 2030 för hållbar utveckling och antas en ministerdeklaration.

4.4.2024 | FN:s råd för mänskliga rättigheter antog en resolution om bekämpning av diskriminering av och våld och skadlig praxis mot intersexpersoner den 4 april. Resolutionen lades fram av Finland i samarbete med Australien, Chile och Sydafrika. Den stöddes också av flera stater från alla delar av världen.

27.11.2023 | Utrikeshandels- och utvecklingsminister Ville Tavio deltar i handelsministermötet i rådet för utrikes frågor i Bryssel den 27 november 2023. På agendan står förberedelserna inför WTO:s nästa ministermöte, handelsavtalet mellan EU och Chile och handelsrelationerna till Förenta staterna. Ministrarna får också en översikt över EU:s pågående förhandlingar om handelsavtal.
